Take a Break as if Your Life Depends on It
Troy reminds us that although we are no longer required to keep the Sabbath, there’s a powerful principle we can apply to our lives today. When we take a rest from work and all of the normal burdens and concerns of life, we can better focus on God, draw close to Him, and gain spiritual strength from Him. It can be difficult to take time out of our busy schedules, but time is required and it will be worth it. Something good can give way to make for something great.

Telling the Right Story About God
Why does God command us to be careful how we use His name? Why would He punish people who take His name in vain? In this week’s message from our series through the Ten Commandments, Dean answers these questions. He also teaches us that a name signifies one’s character, reputation, and authority. Therefore, when we misuse the name of God, we are not telling the right story about Him. We also need to remember that we misuse God’s name with our actions, such as hypocrisy, an ungodly lifestyle, praying for our own benefit, and praying without believing.

What Are You Putting in God’s Place?
Continuing in our summer series through the Ten Commandments, Troy reminds us that when we worship, we place our complete confidence and trust in God’s ability to do for us what neither we, nor anyone else, nor anything else, can do for us. He also zeroes in on the fact that we are not to make any images, including false ideas about God, in an attempt to represent Him, since it’s impossible to express or worship His attributes in that manner. Simply stated, the second commandment forbids us from thinking that God is like us or something that we imagine.

You Are Not God (and Neither is Anyone Else)
To kick off our new series, Troy reminds us that following God’s rules gives us great freedom, the only true freedom there really is. He also helps us understand that God’s people do not earn their position by obeying His commandments; rather, God gives us commandments because we are already His people. Regarding God’s first commandment, we must have no other gods before us, meaning there should be nothing we want more than God, nothing we rely on more than God, and nothing we look to for greater fulfillment than God.
