Who You Are and What You Have Are Enough
There’s great dissatisfaction in wanting more, or better, or different, versus appreciating what we have. As Troy shares to conclude our summer series through the Ten Commandments, “Who You Are and What You Have Are Enough.” If you’re a follower of Jesus, you’re a child of God, and you are who God says you are. To overcome a coveting heart and mindset, the solution is to be content, as opposed to being consumed with wanting what you don’t have, and especially, wanting what you have no right to have.

Don’t Destroy Another Person with Your Words
In this week's message from our series, "The Freedom of Following the Rules," Rick takes us through the ninth commandment, "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor." He encourages us to obey God and love people by not destroying them with our words.

Contentment to Heal Your Restless Heart
Troy discusses the seventh commandment (“You shall not commit adultery”) and the best way to obey the command: focus on our marriages and how we can change ourselves and demonstrate unconditional love. We can also remember to be content, even thankful, for what we have, instead of being resentful over what we don’t have. Of course, Jesus raises the bar and tells us that people who look lustfully have already committed adultery in their hearts. God wants us to keep our bodies and our minds from being unfaithful.

Other People Are More Important Than You
To address the commandment, “You shall not murder,” Troy points out the obvious, that if other people are more important than we are, we won’t physically murder them. But in a way, maybe we actually do. Jesus raises the bar and tells us that when we have hatred in our hearts toward someone, or we feed an angry attitude toward a person who’s offended us, we qualify under Jesus' guidelines as murderers.

Show Respect to Mom and Dad
Continuing in our series through the Ten Commandments, Troy points out that no matter what our experience has been with our parents, God instructs us to honor our father and our mother. The question is: Can we trust God and obey Him no matter how easy or hard it might be? What we find out is that when we do things God’s way, life goes better for us than when we live like we're in charge.

Take a Break as if Your Life Depends on It
Troy reminds us that although we are no longer required to keep the Sabbath, there’s a powerful principle we can apply to our lives today. When we take a rest from work and all of the normal burdens and concerns of life, we can better focus on God, draw close to Him, and gain spiritual strength from Him. It can be difficult to take time out of our busy schedules, but time is required and it will be worth it. Something good can give way to make for something great.

Telling the Right Story About God
Why does God command us to be careful how we use His name? Why would He punish people who take His name in vain? In this week’s message from our series through the Ten Commandments, Dean answers these questions. He also teaches us that a name signifies one’s character, reputation, and authority. Therefore, when we misuse the name of God, we are not telling the right story about Him. We also need to remember that we misuse God’s name with our actions, such as hypocrisy, an ungodly lifestyle, praying for our own benefit, and praying without believing.

What Are You Putting in God’s Place?
Continuing in our summer series through the Ten Commandments, Troy reminds us that when we worship, we place our complete confidence and trust in God’s ability to do for us what neither we, nor anyone else, nor anything else, can do for us. He also zeroes in on the fact that we are not to make any images, including false ideas about God, in an attempt to represent Him, since it’s impossible to express or worship His attributes in that manner. Simply stated, the second commandment forbids us from thinking that God is like us or something that we imagine.

You Are Not God (and Neither is Anyone Else)
To kick off our new series, Troy reminds us that following God’s rules gives us great freedom, the only true freedom there really is. He also helps us understand that God’s people do not earn their position by obeying His commandments; rather, God gives us commandments because we are already His people. Regarding God’s first commandment, we must have no other gods before us, meaning there should be nothing we want more than God, nothing we rely on more than God, and nothing we look to for greater fulfillment than God.
