The One Person You Won’t Forgive
As part of our series, Getting Rid of the Gorilla, Troy helps us consider whether or not we're willing to forgive the person who has hurt us deeply. When we show kindness to someone who hurt us, God works for our good through that situation. We should also realize that when someone hurts us, we often forget our own sinfulness. When we focus on our pain and another person’s faults, we can blind ourselves to the reality of our own condition.

Are You a Christian on the Inside?
Continuing in our series, Getting Rid of the Gorilla, Troy asks us to evaluate ourselves to make sure we're really following Jesus, and that our actions are in line with what's inside of our hearts. As the author of the Gorilla book writes, “Before Jesus ever calls you to forgive, He calls you to be His disciple. For some of us, maybe getting rid of the gorilla is not about forgiveness at all but about deciding whether to answer Jesus’ call to discipleship.”

    Debunking the Myths About Forgiveness
Continuing in our message series, Getting Rid of the Gorilla, Troy shares some myths we tend to believe about forgiveness, that can prevent us from forgiving genuinely and completely. In our struggle to forgive, we need to get rid of the myths before we can start talking about real solutions.

Treat People the Way They Were Meant to Be
Of course we need to treat people the way they should be treated, but can we treat them the way they were created, and the way we want them to become, not the way they actually are right now? Can we treat them the way they were meant to be? If so, we can make significant progress in overcoming our struggle to forgive.

Why a Gorilla? And Why Are You So Angry?
Troy introduces our new sermon series, based on the book, Getting Rid of the Gorilla: Confessions on the Struggle to Forgive, by Brian Jones. In this first message, Troy explains the metaphor of a gorilla for an unforgiving heart, and starts to help us unpack that moment in our lives when pain chose us and we began our struggle to forgive.

A Tomb on Loan with No Debt Owed
    Series: Standalone
Happy Easter! Think about the word "empty." Sometimes, it's a bad word and other times it's bad in a sense, but there's also an element of good. And then there are times when it's just completely a good word. In the most important example of this, the tomb of Jesus is empty because He rose again from the dead and He was never meant to stay in the grave. And because Jesus has power over sin and death, for those of us who belong to Him, our graves can one day be empty, too.

Run the Race and Never Give Up
Continuing in our series through Hebrews, Troy covers chapter 12 and encourages us to run the race of life with perseverance, knowing that our trials and struggles will be worth it. When we focus on Jesus and our goal of eternal life in heaven, we will never give up, no matter how much our feelings might tell us to quit. God did not create us and send us here to start the race, He sent us here to finish the race and live forever with Him.

A Clear Conscience: You Can’t Have It Both Ways
Continuing in our series through Hebrews, Troy discusses chapter 10 and reminds us that we can draw near to God and hold on to the hope we have in Jesus, or we can say, "No, thanks. I'm going to do things my way, even though I know what's right." Can we, as followers of Jesus, grow to be more like Him, to let go of our own will, and to yield to God's will?

    The Only 100% Guarantee
Troy continues in our Hebrews series by sharing God’s promise to everyone who belongs to Him: “I will be their God, and they will be my people.” The real change of heart and mind created by the ministry of the Spirit in the new covenant makes possible the restoration of our relationship and fellowship with God. This restoration is what God has always wanted, with Israel and with Christ followers today. Rules and regulations cannot bring about genuine transformation in our lives, because obedience does not produce heart change and love; rather, love produces heart change and obedience.

If You Leave, No One Can Bring You Back
Continuing in our Hebrews series, Troy covers chapter 6 with the author’s warning that if we actively and adamantly oppose Jesus, no one can bring us to a point of turning around and deciding to follow Him again. No one, that is, except for ourselves. Even if we reach that point of leaving the faith and not wanting to return, we are not without hope. Even though no one can force us to come back, we do still have a choice, and we are never beyond the reach of God’s forgiveness and salvation.
