Genesis is a book of important beginnings. It tells of the beginning of everything but God. It is the seed plot of the whole Bible and nearly every great spiritual truth is found here. The Church Revealed In The New Testament
(Elective for Level 100 or Level 300)
Sometimes it helps our Christian lives to go back to the basics—to study why we believe what we do. The purpose of this study is to do just that—to examine the church as it existed in the New Testament times. Where did it originate? What was its organization, its name, and its creed? What did they do when they met? What is the purpose of the church? What is its future? What did it teach about salvation? Why should we pattern ourselves after the New Testament Church? Through a study of scripture and other Christian writings, this course is designed to enable all of us to grow closer to Christ by knowing more about His Church.
Denominational Doctrines
(Level 300)
Writing to the church in Ephesus, Paul encouraged them to be "endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace" (4:3) because, he continued, “There is one body and one spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling...” (4:4). That body is the church that belongs to Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18,24).
How can we endeavor to keep the “unity of the Spirit,” or how can it be said that there is “one body” when there are so many different churches? This class is being offered to help us answer these questions. This class will examine some of the teachings and doctrines of several major denominations and religious groups in light of the Scriptures, as well as looking at some of our own teachings.
